William Alexander "Billy" Hicks, son of Daniel and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson Hicks,
was born Oct. 29, 1867 in Marshall County, Mississippi.

Billy spent most of his growing up years farming with his father in Mississippi. He moved
to Alabama sometime before 1889. It is not known the reason for his move. Perhaps it was to visit relatives, because his father was born in Horse Creek (Dora) Walker Co., Alabama.

After his return to Alabama, he met and married Nancy Ellen "Sis" Barnes in Walker County.

They had six children: James D. b. Sept. 22, 1891; Sarah A. b. abt. 1893; Dora E. b. abt.
1895; Florence Rivers b. July 17, 1896; Raymond D. b. June 29, 1903; Marion Thomas "Ted"
b. July 4, 1908.

Billy and Sis lived and raised their children in Dora. He was a miner and a farmer.

Billy died Oct. 8, 1947. Sis died Aug. 28, 1960. They are both buried at the Davis Cemetery in
Dora.
